SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS

The purpose of The Garden Club of America is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, to share the advantages of association by means of educational meetings, conferences, correspondence and publications, and to restore, improve, and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement.

To provide American landscape architects with a special opportunity for independent work in Rome.

GCA INTERCHANGE FELLOWSHIP & RHS MCLAREN HORTICULTURAL SCHOLARSHIP	November 15
To foster British-American relations through the interchange of scholars in horticulture, botany, landscape architecture and environmental studies.

To promote conservation of rare and endangered flora in the U.S.

To promote the preservation of tropical forests by enlarging the body of botanists with field experience.

FRANCES M. PEACOCK SCHOLARSHIP FOR NATIVE BIRD HABITAT	January 15
To study areas in the U.S. that provide winter or summer habitat for threatened and endangered native birds.

ANNE S. CHATHAM FELLOWSHIP IN MEDICINAL BOTANY	January 15
To protect and preserve knowledge about the medicinal use of plants by providing research support in the field of ethno botany.

To promote wetlands conservation through the support of young scientists in their field work and research.

DOUGLAS DOCKERY THOMAS FELLOWSHIP IN GARDEN HISTORY AND DESIGN	January 15
To study history and design in the American garden.

GCA FELLOWSHIP IN ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION	December 31
To support advanced study and research in ecological restoration.

GCA INTERNSHIP IN GARDEN HISTORY AND DESIGN	February 15
To encourage the study of garden history and design and, if possible, aid in the cataloging of the GCA slides in the Archives of American Gardens, Smithsonian Institution.

ZELLER SUMMER SCHOLARSHIP IN MEDICINAL BOTANY	February 1
To promote the study of medicinal botany on the undergraduate level

THE CAROLINE THORN KISSEL SUMMER ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP	February 10
To encourage environmental study for either residents of New Jersey studying in New Jersey or elsewhere, or non-residents pursuing a study in New Jersey.

THE ZONE VI FELLOWSHIP IN URBAN FORESTRY Provides financial aid to advanced undergraduate or graduate students to study urban forestry and related subjects.	January 31

GCA AWARD IN DESERT STUDIES	January 15
Promotes the study of horticulture, conservation, botany, environmental science and landscape design relating to the arid landscape.
